
Hello, I’m Dee Thomas,
A passionate Math's teacher and tutor with over a decade of experience working with students and educators. My journey into teaching began with a love of numbers, but it wasn’t always smooth sailing. Despite my passion for Math's, I faced a major hurdle: a crippling fear of speaking in front of people. Stammering, dry mouth, shaking hands, and a blank mind were just a few of the barriers I had to overcome.
It took me over 10 years of behind-the-scenes work with teachers and students to build the confidence I needed to step into the classroom. Along the way, I developed strategies to block out my nerves and focus on what I love: teaching.
Once I finally found my place in the classroom, I realized that teaching was about so much more than just maths. It was about equipping students with the right tools and strategies to truly understand the material. It was also about teaching them vital skills—skills that go beyond the classroom, such as how to think critically, study effectively, and take responsibility for their own learning. These skills are invaluable not only in maths, but in life.
Through the years, I’ve worked with hundreds of students, helping them not just improve their maths results, but build their confidence and study skills as well. My approach uses metacognition—teaching students how to think about their thinking, and how to learn in a way that suits their individual needs. The results have been remarkable, with many students seeing dramatic improvements not just in maths, but across all areas of study.
For the past four years, I’ve been working full-time as a Maths lecturer at a now outstanding provider, specialising in helping students improve their maths Functional Skills and GCSE grades. I’ve developed a unique teaching style that is both effective and engaging, backed by research on how people learn maths best. It’s fun, it’s different, and it gets results.
