The Foundations of Maths with Dee

This work is guided by four simple but powerful beliefs.
They shape the way I teach, the way I build confidence, and the way I support each learner to feel capable, calm, and ready to grow.

  • Maths doesn’t have to feel like a chore. I bring creativity, curiosity and calm to every session, helping students see maths as something they can enjoy. Whether it’s spotting patterns, playing with numbers or cracking real-life problems, my lessons are designed to build interest—not just memorise rules.

  • Struggling doesn’t mean you’re not good at maths—it just means you haven’t been taught in a way that works for you. I believe that with the right approach, the right pace, and the right support, everyone can make progress. It’s never too late to grow in confidence and skill.

  • Maths is emotional. Many students carry anxiety or shame from past experiences. My approach is holistic—I see beyond the textbook to support the learner as a whole. That means creating a safe, respectful space where students feel seen, heard, and encouraged to ask questions without fear.

  • Mistakes aren’t a failure—they’re part of the process. I help students focus on progress, not perfection. It’s not about getting everything right straight away; it’s about building confidence step by step, celebrating small wins, and learning how to keep going when it gets tough.

These beliefs sit at the heart of Maths With Dee.
They’re not a method or a model—they’re a way of being with each learner.
A reminder that confidence is built quietly, that progress is personal, and that every student deserves to feel seen, supported, and capable.

“I started tutoring because I kept meeting brilliant students who’d convinced themselves they ‘just weren’t good at maths.’ They didn’t need fixing, they just needed the right kind of support.”

  • If your child is feeling anxious about maths, avoiding homework, or struggling to keep up in class, tutoring can help. But it’s not just for students who are behind—some just need a confidence boost or a different way of learning that makes things click.

  • Each session is tailored to your child. We’ll focus on the areas they find tricky, work through examples together, and build strategies they can use independently. There’s plenty of space to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow in confidence.

  • I usually suggest a small amount of practice between sessions to help things stick—but nothing overwhelming. The goal is to build confidence, not add more stress. I’ll always keep you in the loop about what we’re working on and how you can support at home.

  • Every child is different, but most families notice a shift in confidence and attitude within a few weeks. Progress builds over time, and I’ll keep you updated with what we’re noticing and where we’re heading.

  • Yes. I’m fully familiar with the GCSE and Functional Skills maths specifications and align sessions with what your child is doing in school. But I also fill in the gaps where needed and explain things in ways that make more sense to your child.

  • I don’t just teach maths—I support the whole learner. That means creating a calm, encouraging space where your child feels safe to ask questions, try things out, and get things wrong without fear. It’s about rebuilding trust in their own ability, not just chasing grades.
